Samaritan is a 2022 American superhero film directed by Julius Avery and written by Bragi F. Schut. Described as a nighttime, new take on superhero movies, the story was previously adapted[a] into the Mythos Comics graphic novels by Schut, Marc Olivent, and Renzo Podesta. Samaritan was released on August 26, 2022, by United Artists Releasing and Amazon Studios via streaming on Prime Video. The moving picture received mixed reviews from critics.

Plot [edit]

Superhumans Samaritan and Nemesis were combative twin brothers who lived in Granite City. Evenly matched, the villainous Nemesis crafts a mystical sledgehammer that gave him an edge over the heroic Samaritan. Nevertheless, the hammer could injure both brothers. During a confrontation at the city's power plant, both were plainly killed as the constitute exploded. In February 2019, it was announced that MGM had acquired a spec script by Bragi F. Schut titled Samaritan to be co-produced with Balboa Productions.[2] Schut had written the screenplay prior to adapting the story in a series of graphic novels published by Mythos Comics.[3] In September 2019, Julius Avery joined the product every bit manager.[iv]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 38% of 115 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5/10. The website's consensus reads: "Although Samaritan is better than it could take been, this Stallone-led superhero drama is creatively underpowered."[xviii] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 45 out of 100, based on 28 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[19]
